History
Salomon began in 1947 when Francois Salomon and his family began producing wood products and ski edges in Annecy, France. In 1966 Salomon unveiled the first ever binding with a self-release heelpiece. Salomon bindings were used that year for the first time in Alpine World Ski Championships in Chile.
In 1972 Salomon became the number 1 binding manufacturer, selling more than a million bindings in that year alone. In 1976 Salomon began creating apparel and gear under the Club Line. Three years later Salomon began producing ski boots, and were immediately successful.
In 1990 Salomon launched their first ski, the S9000. Eight years later the 1080 was launched, effectively the world's first mass market twin tip ski.
Salomon continues to explore different directions, with a full line of hiking footwear, inline skates, year round apparel, and snowboard equipment.
