I initially considered these boots because of their eVent lining, which has been tested to be much more breathable than Gore-Tex or even Gore XCR. I have very sweaty feet and was very pleased with the breathability of these shoes. I had been hiking in Montrail backpacking boots for 4 painful years due to toe crowding and sought a better-fitting and more comfortable boot for a trip this year. I have a wide forefoot and was concerned that the Italian Kaylands would not offer sufficient toebox room, but a move up a half-size gave me the needed space for my toes while the innovative lacing system allowed me to fit them well. I also tried Hi-Tec’s eVent backpacking boot but found it to be clunky and ill-fitting in comparison to the more lithe yet supportive Kayland.
Gore-tex footwear worn in hot weather or indoors makes my feet get hot quickly, but in these my feet did not get any warmer than they would have in non-waterproof shoes, even while backpacking in 95 degree weather. The flip side of this highly
