History
Burton Skis, founded by Jake Burton Carpenter in 1977, is a Ski manufacturer that has grown to become one one of the most popular Ski companies in the world. With a product line that encompasses all the essential elements of Skiing (Skis, boots, Ski bindings, outerwear, accessories), Jake Burton has created a definition of what it is to be a Skier. Besides selling goods under its own brand name, Burton also own several sub-brands which tend to focus on a specific line of products or aspect of the Ski market. These sub-brands include Anon Optics (retailing Ski goggles and other eyewear), Red Protection (helmets and body armor), Analog Outerwear (high-end outerwear), and Gravis Footwear.

Burton is often referred to as the " high end " of Skis and Ski gear. Never the less, it must be noted that Burton Skis is still rider-owned and independent. Due to its significant influence over the Ski market and renown with Skiers world wide, Burton has been courted for takeover by many large corporations many times over, yet Mr. Burton has resisted. Burton's professional Ski team is also one of the largest and most well rounded in Skiing. Their team includes some of the most influential and successful riders in Skiing such as Shaun White, Jeremy Jones, and Terje Haakonsen.
